Diamagnetics

Diamagnetic (IT) materials oppose both poles of a magnetic field. Water is slightly diamagnetic and since most living things have a high percentage of water that means that living things are also diamagnetic. Silver is diamagnetic and so is Bismuth (IT) but a material that is very diamagnetic is pyrolytic graphite which is made by burning huge quantities of methane in a vacuum and depositing the carbon made on a plate layer by layer. With bismuth or pyrolytic graphite you can do room temperature levitation (IT)experiments at home.

I’ve always been fascinated by diamagnetism!
