Cornuts or fried corn kernels were introduced in the United States in 1936 by Albert Holloway. They are made by soaking corn kernels in water for days and then deep frying them. They are one of my favourite snacks but the Cornut brand is still the best. In the 1980’s they used to include a package of seeds to plant the corn that was used to make Cornuts, it was a specific type of corn from Cusco, Peru that grew huge kernels which you can’t find anymore because the company changed over to a hybrid version of corn that are smaller than they used to be.
